Blog Templates Can Make Blogging Easier

How to pick the best blog template for ranking higher in the search engines should be the goal of any webmaster. There are so many blogging templates to choose from such as paid templates or free templates. Balancing the visual effects is possible with the right blogging template that uses less graphics, this will help with faster load time when visitors come to your blog.
Its recommended to avoid blog templates that use javascript for design but as with anything it is up to personal preference. Flash templates may be another one of those things that may hinder a blogs search engine rankings. Templates that utilize CSS in the design is good because it reduces the amount of code needed for the design elements. Having a external CSS file that contributes to the design will make the codes look cleaner and help with search optimization.
Templates that are simple with easy navigation will make it easier for your visitors to access different sections of the blog. So by keeping it simple you will have a more rewarding experience as a blogger.

Blogging Basics - Top 5 Blogging Tips

Blogging Basics - Blogging Tips
Basics Of Blogging. Image taken from supraaffiliate.com copyright 2010.

Five Blogging Tips

The basics of blogging is all about content creation and content management really and the organization of that content so that it reads quite well, there are many other blogging tips, but perhaps these five basic blogging tips will be the best ever to use to help your blog become one of the top ones or be on it's way there.
As you'll know there are probloggers everywhere on the Internet and these professional bloggers flaunt their successful auras in their marketing material and that's a good thing to be inspired by, something to look up to and emulate for a short while, as you can gain some great ideas for your own blog.
The ability to schedule your posts
This is a great feature that the top two blogging platforms Blogger and Wordpress allow and it is an essential way of planning out your blog posts so they appear like they are being published on a regular basis, but in actual fact you could have just wrote all of your blog posts in a couple of hours so you could have time for other things.
Building up a content queue of to be published posts is about the smartest thing any blogger could do, although you still have to have the motivation to do this and not leave them half finished in draft as this is what some people do, they think, oh I'll publish it tomorrow or next week and then they forget and don't do what they said they'd do.
Alternatively you could write by hand in a notepad and later transfer those ideas into actual blog posts, I like to write notes by writing with pen and paper, as I am a traditional writer in that way and I like to write small snetences that I can later expand when it comes to typing up on computer.
Interlinking Relevant Blog Posts
Once you've built up a decent amount of blog posts on your blog, it is a good idea to start to interlink them, so that you can retain some sticky power from your visitors, who may land on a blog post and then right at the end can be directed to another series of blog posts on your blog, so that they stay on your blog longer, so that they may subscribe to your blog or sign up to your email list.
As every blog post is a potential landing page, you can quickly become attuned to writing posts that are able to link up relevantly to others in your archive and this has been known to help with the search engine rankings of your blog, especially when you use keyword anchor text in your links, an example could be - Blog Marketing Success, this is an anchored text link that uses highly relevant keywords for this hubpage, so research your own blogs niches keywords, so you can pick and choose which ones to use for this purpose.
Comments On Other Blogs
As blogging is a social medium of content showcases, you should get to know other bloggers in your niche who either blog on the exact same topic as you do or something related, so that you can strike up relationships with them for the greater good of each others blogs and commenting on other blogs is a great way to achieve this, although it's not the only way you can use other blogs to generate traffic, it's certainly a good starting point.
Some comment systems on blogs may have do-follow tags which the search engines will follow to index blog comments, but some have no-follow tag code which won't allow the search engine spiders to follow and index blog comments, but this doesn't really matter as you want to leverage the readers of other related blogs, so by commenting regular on these blogs, like any community, you would gain some attention and traffic back to your blog.
Comments are ok so long as you leave a comment that is genuine and has an opinion behind it or else what's the point of a comment that says great post and link back to your blog, obvious reason could be just spam, so you delete, because I would, unless their only link is the blogger platform, such as a generic profile, then you know it could be a genuine response as they are not really promoting anything spammy.
Guest blogging
This is yet another way to leverage other blogs traffic by writing a blog post or several to different but relevant blogs and you are allowed to leave a link back to your blog at the end of your post, an example of a guest post could be a tutorial, an industry related article, a review of some sort or a lead in to a product such as an ebook that is highly relevant to the bloggers blog that granted you access to do a guest post.
An amount of planning is needed for this also, as you need to get used to writing some poilte emails and prepare for some amount of rejection as some of the higher traffic blogs are probably swamped with guest post submissions already, so you need to be clever with your approach and try to separate yourself from the "I wanna be a guest writer just to get my link on your blog" type as you really want to provide a great and good read for a blog post so as to provide some good content that will make you look good on others blogs.
Writing your own ebook
An ebook that you as a blogger wrote yourself is the greatest thing bloggers could do as you are extending your blog with a really detailed electronic book that explains more than one blog post could, or maybe you have wrote an ebook collecting together the content of your blog as a whole but with added bonus content.
You could offer this ebook for free so that people could sign up to your email list on your blog or you could make it an item to purchase through paypal or some other payment processing site like E-Junkie or even Clickbank and earning money could be a side income stream that helps towards your blogging goals.
Of course when considering blogging as a source of income or to get more traffic to your main site are the top two benefits of this popular online medium, so give your blog a head start and focus on it with a plan

Custom Blog Design

Blogging is a major marketing tool today. And, as with all commercial ventures, your appearance helps determine whether or not potential customers will vest time, interest and money in you. Most websites nowadays have blogs hidden away on them, and these don't really get much notice. This is because they're start-from-scratch blogs, which require massive amounts of time to build a fanbase. What you want, is something easy to use, like Blogger, combined with a personalized blog design that's all about you.

What a blog can do for you.

  • A blog with a voice can get you loads of visitors you wouldn't otherwise have. You could be getting traffic from all over the place, and a percentage of them will take an interest in what you're offering.
  • It can sell your product. I sell a lot of books this way, just from people seeing my novel covers posted. They click on them out of curiosity and then a portion of those people buy my books. These are people I wouldn't otherwise encounter.
  • It can help build you a webpresence. My blog gets all kinds of crazy inbound links for certain topics, which means it gets mentioned in all kinds of circles. This doesn't happen overnight, but if you persist you will experience the same thing.
  • It can lead to other work. If you demonstrate a particular voice on your blog, you may get writing offers from other places, such as magazines and publishers in general.

Avoid the web designers and professional graphic artists.
  • There are plenty of designers like me and my Blogbunnie Design Studio who charge reasonable prices. You don't need someone who has a degree in computer science or graphic design to make your blog for you.
  • "Professionals" charge professional prices, and I've seen that offered at 1500 bucks for just a blog. It's a blog, for God's sake, not a Fortune 500 Website.
  • Private blog designers are usually doing it for fun, because they enjoy creating. This means they are less likely to treat you more like a person and less like a number.
  • You don't NEED all that web design crap to have an awesome blog. You're just after something that looks nice -- the rest of it doesn't mean crap to you, so who cares about all their special CSS and XML etc skills? These aren't really needed to make a blog layout and install it on blogger. Well, ok, a bit, but not enough to warrant charging you several hundred bucks.

Use Blogger, or something similar.
  • It comes with a buiit-in community, which means you get instant advertising for free.
  • You can post anywhere you choose, which means you get instant advertising for free.
  • Anyone can figure out how to use it.
A little effort goes a long way.
Unless you already have a fanbase, or already have a community to join, it can take a few months to really start seeing your sitemeter go up in numbers. But rest assured, if you keep your blog updated and make a point of visiting other blogs and leaving comments, you are very likely to see good results in a reasonable period of time.

Insert a Custom Signature in Blogger Posts

Before I explain how to insert a custom signature at the end of each of your blog posts, please note this is tutorial is only meant for users of Blogger. If you want to do this with Wordpress or something similar, you'll have to find a tutorial created by someone familiar with those platforms, as I don't use them. So, assuming that you're a Blogger blogger, let's first talk about why you might want a custom signature. The main reason that comes to mind is that they look pretty cool. The second reason would be that they do set your blog apart from other blogs, because there aren't too many people who use custom signatures. And the third reason would have to be because they are really quite easy to make and install!
There are two methods which I find easy to use, but before I go into either one, let me first say that you will need to have your signature already prepared, as this tutorial isn't going to explain how to make one. All you need is a suitably sized graphic image (something around 160 x 70 pixels is about as big as I personally would go), be it a jpeg file or something similar, and host it somewhere free, like photobucket.com. Once you've got it uploaded, you're ready for the steps below.

The Really Easy Way

Step 1.

Go to your Blogger Dashboard > Go to your Blog Settings > Go to Formatting > Scroll down to the Post Template box.

Step 2.

Insert this code into the box: <p><image class="centered"alt="post signature" src="sig URL" /></p>

Step 3.

Copy the url of your image and paste it into the code where you see the words "sig URL". For example, when you're done it should look something like this -- with the part in bold being the actual address of your own jpeg.
<br><p><image class="centered"alt="post signature" src="http://www.yourphotohost.com/yourgraphic.jpg" /></p>

Things to Note:

If you use this method, the image will appear in your blogger control panel when you create your posts. You will see it there before you enter your text. While this is a very easy method, it's not the one I use for two reasons:
  • 1. If you accidentally delete the image while typing your post, you will have to close and start a new post to get the image back in there.
  • 2. The image will only show up in the posts you create from that moment forward, they will not show up in your previous posts.

The Way I Prefer

Before you try this, realize that you need to go into your blog's HTML template and adjust the code. If you don't know what that is, do not try this. Seriously -- if you don't know what HTML is, if you don't know how to change things in your template already, don't play with this because you can screw your entire blog up very easily if you make a small mistake. Right, for the rest of you, this is actually pretty easy going as far as changing the code:

Step 1: Access your template

(I'm not explaining how to get there, as those of you familiar with it will already know how to do it).

Step 2. Find this code:

<div class='post-body entry-content'> <data:post.body/> <div style='clear: both;'/> <!-- clear for photos floats --> </div> <div class='post-footer'>

Step 3: Insert your image code (see bold) as follows:

<div class='post-body entry-content'> <data:post.body/> <div style='clear: both;'/> <!-- clear for photos floats --> </div> <br><img src='http://photobucket.com/signature.jpg'/></br> <div class='post-footer'>

Step 4: Preview and Save if you're happy with it.

Things to Note:

I added the <br> code because in the blog I was creating, it needed it. You may want to remove, or add additional, space as you see fit. This method will not have the signature appearing in the control panel, it will simply show up when you post. It will also show up in all the previous posts
.
